The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts

Arts Writing Initiative

INDIVIDUALS AND JOURNALS

The Arts Writing Initiative addresses another essential but under-funded area in the arts: criticism and general writing about the visual arts.  The project has two components: grants to writers, which support various types of projects, from books to essays to experimental writing in new media; and grants to non-profit arts publications.

INDIVIDUALS

Grants to individuals are made through Creative Capital. The Arts Writers Grant Program supports writers whose work addresses contemporary visual art through grants ranging from $3,000 to $50,000 (USD).  Writers who meet the program's eligibility requirements are invited to apply in the following categories:

Articles
Blogs
Books
New and Alternative Media
Short-Form Writing

The 2010 Grant Application will open April 26, 2010 with a deadline of June 7, 2010. For more information about this program or to apply, please visit the Arts Writers website. To receive schedule updates please join the email list.

JOURNALS

Grants to art publications are administered by the Foundation itself and offer capacity-building assistance to help invited publications to achieve greater financial stability, increase audiences, and explore new forms of publishing, partnerships and distribution strategies.
