Dover Street Market Los Angeles(DSMLA) is excited to announce the upcoming exhibition, Andy WarhoLA, showcasing the iconic works of Andy Warhol. This exhibit, curated by Michael Dayton Hermann of The Andy Warhol Foundation celebrates the multifaceted spirit of Los Angeles that fascinated Warhol, an energy that remains alive in the creative community cultivated by DSMLA.
Andy WarhoLA reframes Los Angeles through the artist’s own lens, pairing original vintage photographs by Andy Warhol of the people and places that shaped the city’s mythology. Installed as a sculptural homage to Warhol’s iconic Brillo Box, the exhibition collapses commerce, celebrity, and place into a single immersive environment filled with objects of desire.
Within the exhibition, over 100 photographs of the Los Angeles landscape, many previously unpublished, are projected on screen, creating a mesmerizing visual chronicle of the city as Warhol saw it. This cinematic presentation reveals Los Angeles not as a mere backdrop, but as a cultural system Warhol intuitively understood and quietly mapped. Through his camera, the
sprawling metropolis transforms into an intimate portrait: sun-bleached boulevards, iconic architecture, and the everyday moments that captured his fascination with the city’s unique energy and mythology.
Drawing from The Andy Warhol Foundation’s collection of photographs, books and t-shirts, Andy WarhoLA offers intimate access to Andy Warhol’s own personal collection. Established in 1987 in accordance with Warhol’s will, the Foundation has become a leading funder of the visual arts, distributing over $300 million to support work that is experimental, challenging, and underrecognized.
“Through exhibitions like Andy WarhoLA, the Foundation celebrates Warhol’s creative legacy, ensuring his inventive, open-minded spirit continues to shape visual culture for generations to come,” said Michael Dayton Hermann, Managing Director, Strategic Initiatives at The Andy Warhol Foundation and curator of the exhibition. “Revenue from the sale of these works will generously support the Warhol Foundation’s endowment, from which it distributes approximately $18 million in cash grants annually to advance visual arts.”
