Founded in 1973 as Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, LMCC serves, connects, and makes space for artists and community. In September 2019, LMCC opened the Arts Center at Governors Island, a newly renovated 40,000-square-foot space that repurposes an 1870s warehouse for the 21^st century. Conceived as an incubator for creative exploration, it houses LMCC’s Artist Residency Program, along with sizeable galleries, flexible performance spaces and ample rehearsal rooms.
