The Miller Institute for Contemporary Art is the latest evolution of Carnegie Mellon University’s public facing gallery program dedicated to supporting the work of experimental visual artists through exhibitions, discussions, lectures and performances. The Miller Institute for Contemporary Art plays an important role as a bridge between the university’s celebrated art school and the larger Pittsburgh art community and is an important channel for exchange between the city and the broader art world. The Miller commissions artists from around the country to create ambitious projects for the gallery; it solicits new scholarly writing that contextualizes and historicizes artists’ practices, and produces publications, podcasts and live events to foster conversations that connect the work to broader currents in contemporary visual practice.
