Mophradat creates opportunities for artists from the Arab world through an inventive approach to funding, commissioning, collaborating, and gathering. Its way of working is imaginative and ambitious, inclusive and hospitable. Mophradat encourages and supports artists by bringing them together with one another and with curators and institutions which share progressive socio-political values. Between 2015 and 2019, it enabled the presentation of artworks and projects by more than 300 artists, connected with 2,000 young Arab artists around the world, and curated 15 exhibitions and events at partner organizations in Europe and the US.

“The terrific range of project proposals we receive each year speaks to the mobile and porous disciplinary boundaries of contemporary art practice, and to the rich and inventive ways writers approach art today. They are alert to the urgent need to expand the conventions of art history and criticism with ideas from other discourses, such as black studies, transnational and diaspora studies, gender and women’s studies, and LGBT studies. The work of lesser known and overlooked artists and art communities continues to be mined, with writers articulating new ways to counter the striking imbalances of race, class and gender that continue to affect the arts and the culture industry.”
