Housed within a 175-acre public park in the Santa Cruz foothills, and in the heart of the Silicon Valley, Montalvo Arts Center provides a creative incubator dedicated to supporting the creative process for artists from all creative disciplines and geographical locations. The residency program encourages the creation of new and adventurous works, supports risk taking, collaboration and cross-disciplinary investigation of contemporary issues. It’s also a cultural producer and presenter, continually seeking new ways to engage the public in the artistic process and works of its Artist Fellows. Montalvo Arts Center will embark on new opportunities for artists to work collaboratively and to explore issues of global concern in open-ended ways. Their new CoLAB fellowship will invite one lead artist to function as residency curator; that person will identify a topic of interest and invite a small group of fellow artists to come to Montalvo for six weeks to work together. All of the center’s spaces will be available for use by the collaborating artists and staff will be on hand to facilitate connections to regional resources such as community organizations, nearby academic institutions, and other material and intellectual support systems.
