Andy Warhol was enormously prolific. When he passed away, his estate included a large collection of his paintings, drawings, prints, and photographs. The Foundation, as beneficiary of the estate, has donated tens of thousands of these works to nearly 200 institutions, including a group of more than 3,000 works that now anchors the permanent collection of The Andy Warhol Museum. In order to generate revenue to support the Foundation and its ongoing philanthropic activities, works have also been thoughtfully introduced into the marketplace over the years. Always guided by the mission of securing Warhol’s legacy, these sales are orchestrated as special exhibitions in collaboration with esteemed galleries, curated auctions through Christie’s, and through private sales. The Foundation currently works with Christie’s as its exclusive sales agent. Christie’s has been responsible for impactful live auctions as well as online auctions, including the sale Andy Warhol: Better Days, arranged to coincide with the Foundation’s emergency support of artists impacted by COVID-19. Visit Christie’s to view current auction items and sales, and for more information about other aspects of the partnership. Additionally, the Foundation has established a collaboration with eBay for Charity for ongoing online auctions and sales of original Warhol drawings, printed material and vintage posters.
