Ursa Major Fund, administered by Bunnell Street Arts Center and supported by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, supports the independent, self-organized work of artists, small groups and collaborators across Alaska’s cultural ecosystem. Ursa Major provides grants to foster the development and presentation of artist-led, risk-taking, public-facing projects that inspire curiosity, engagement, dialogue and respect for cultural integrity.

Grants allow artists to create their own work, engage their communities, and experiment with new possibilities. Projects must be outward facing and may include (but are not limited to) experimental or collaborative projects such as an exhibition or exhibition series, a curatorial project, the work of an independent art space or collective, a public art project, an event or performance, a publication, an online project, an artist residency, a community workshop, a series of reading or screenings, an art-making gathering, and more.

“We strive to support institutions that share our artist-centered values. The small grassroots arts organizations as well as the museums that comprise our grantees provide invaluable opportunities for artists to express their unique perspectives on the pressing urgencies of the day. We hope that our grants help to amplify artists’ voices within their communities, in national discussions and debates, and across platforms in the international contemporary art world.”
