Atlanta Contemporary advances contemporary art by supporting artists, fostering experimentation, and connecting audiences to new ideas through dynamic exhibitions and programs. Founded in 1973 as Nexus, a grassroots artists’ cooperative, Atlanta Contemporary has since become one of the southeast’s leading contemporary art centers, playing a vital role in Atlanta’s cultural landscape by presenting over 200 consequential artists and creatives from the local, national, and international art scenes through its various exhibition, project spaces, and programs each year.  Atlanta Contemporary commissions new works, paying particular attention to artists who have not had a significant exhibition in the Southeast and organizes over 125 programs annually.

“Our grantees range from small arts organizations with one staff member to major museums, yet they all provide essential resources for artists as well as innovative platforms for critical cultural dialogue. Creative risk-taking is at the heart of this country’s most meaningful social, political, and cultural developments, therefore we are proud to stand behind artist-centered organizations that support experimental practice.”
