Artspace has developed deep community connections, working closely with local youth through a summer apprenticeship program, supporting hundreds of practicing artists through its annual city-wide open studios, and bringing artists from around the country to New Haven to share their ambitious visions through thought provoking and politically charged exhibitions.

In the Summer of 2020 Artspace presented Revolution on Trial: May Day and The People’s Art, New Haven Black Panthers at 50. The exhibition presented commissioned works that commemorate the living legacies of the local Black Panther Party chapter as well as the controversial trial of Bobby Seale, Ericka Huggins and 7 other party members, this show will counter the existing historical narrative of the period by centering the voices the Black community.
