In the Shadow of the Sun is a large-scale multidisciplinary installation by artist Ashley Middleton in collaboration with sound designer Jessica Ackerley, and director Aude Guivarc’h. On view from May – July 2027, the project draws on Middleton’s recent experiences doing fieldwork in the Arctic as a resident at Artica Svalbard, Norway. In Beacon, the artist will suspend a sculptural iceberg form from the ceiling, which will be embedded with sensors that respond to human touch, altering both the sound and lighting in the space. Subsonic frequencies will also be sent through the floor, turning recordings of underwater acoustic data into physical sensation.

1963

Warhol begins his foray into innovative, unprecedented filmmaking and starts making silent, moving portraits called Screen Tests.
