Founded in 1973 as Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, LMCC serves, connects, and makes space for artists and community. In September 2019, LMCC opened the Arts Center at Governors Island, a newly renovated 40,000-square-foot space that repurposes an 1870s warehouse for the 21st century. Conceived as an incubator for creative exploration, it houses LMCC’s Artist Residency Program, along with sizeable galleries, flexible performance spaces and ample rehearsal rooms.

2013

Founded in 2013 and launched in 2015 Common Field is a national network of independent visual arts organizations and organizers that connects, supports, and advocates for the artist-centered field.
