Founded in 2015, Racing Magpie is a Lakota-centric arts and culture organization located in Rapid City, South Dakota. The institution is guided by Lakota principles of respect, reciprocity, and collectivity; all of its activities and internal structures are considered holistically in relation to time, land, and individual expression. These considerations extend to the Racing Magpie’s approach to participation in the foundation’s Regional Regranting Program as well; artists eligible for grants from the Sinew Fund include all Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires) artists and culture bearers including groups of Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota people dispersed across the country. Racing Magpie presents exhibitions and public programs; operates a studio program for artists and elders; and runs Winter Camp, a major annual knowledge-sharing program.
